City Compass is an educational, sustainability-focused mobile app created through EU-funded Erasmus+ projects and one of the key tools of Youth Green Compass. Its main goal is to help young people discover more sustainable ways of living in their cities, while learning about climate change, environmental responsibility and green everyday practices.
The app invites users to discover Europe’s cities through the eyes of the next generation of environmental leaders. Designed to promote sustainable urban tourism and local eco-awareness, its maps bring together green businesses, sustainable practices and educational spaces focused on the ecological transition.
Explore Green Points Across Europe
In the app, users can choose from different European cities and explore their Green Points: places that stand out for their contribution to a more sustainable way of living, organised into different categories.
Whether you are a local looking for greener alternatives in your own city or a visitor who wants to explore it more responsibly, the Green Points make it easier to find eco-friendly places and activities.
Take On Green Challenges
Beyond the map, City Compass encourages users to put sustainability into practice through green challenges. Some invite users to carry out a clean-up. Others focus on food, such as finding food produced within a 100-kilometre radius of where you live, visiting farmers’ markets, buying directly from local producers and choosing seasonal products with short supply chains, or completing 14 vegan meals in a single week.
Users can register, set their own sustainability goals, track their progress and earn points as they complete challenges. This helps them see the impact of their everyday choices and learn practical ways to live more sustainably.
From the App to Real Life
City Compass has also been an important part of our activities in Alicante. During the World Environmental Week, participants in our mindfulness activity took on the One-Day Disconnection Challenge, while the Green Fashion Day was linked to the Trash to Trend Challenge, which encourages giving unwanted clothes and items a new life. Our visit to the Central Market and the gymkhana around the city also helped participants discover some of Alicante’s Green Points first-hand.
